    NEWS UPDATE: 5 May 2008

My dear friends,

Thank you so very much for your contribution to the Lucky Jack Fund.  I am so happy that my veterinarian caretaker, Dr. Bob, has received enough donations to take me to LSU where their expert surgical team can fix me up like new again.  Please remember that your credit card contributions are being processed courtesy of Quality Company Publishing, so that's what your credit card statement will show.

Many wonderful people and their pets sent me "Get Well" messages – even many cats!  I didn't know I could have so many friends.  The good people at www.VetWebDesigners.com ,  www.VirtualClinics.net , and www.AnimalHouseMagazine.com have all pitched in to post all my new friends' names and the messages they sent on Dr. Bob's website, www.HotSpringsVillageVet.com.

New pictures, videos, and progress reports on me are being added to www.HotSpringsVillageVet.com  each day so my new friends can see how well I'm doing, and www.AnimalHouseMagazine.com is doing a feature story on me too!

Before all this happened, I was was just a happy little doggie -- but now I am a Star with "Celebrity Power", and I get to remind people how important compassion for animals really is.

I can't thank you all enough for what you have made possible for me.  I wish I could give each and every one of you a big lick in the face -- even the cats!

Love,

Lucky Jack

     NEWS UPDATE: 13 February 2008

Jack is Back!   "Lucky Jack" returned from Louisiana School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge , Louisiana on Friday, February 9th, from a successful surgery to extract the arrowhead lodged in his skull. The surgical site is visible on these updated pictures. Other than a brief nosebleed, Jack came through with flying colors. Dr. Giselle Hosgood, surgeon at LSU, performed the surgery.  The surgery took about an hour. Jack will be convalescing the the All Pet Center for a couple of weeks.  Dr. Bob Zepecki is initiating  a nationwide search for a home for Jack. Just a few rules from Dr. Bob: Jack will be placed in a home with no current pet.  Jack's new home must have a fenced yard.  Lucky Jack walks well on a leash, and prefers rural or suburban areas.  Kids in the house are fine if they are over 5 years old. If Jack develops future medical problems , new caregivers should be financially capable of caring for him. The ARF fund will sponsor Jacks first year of insurance, although the present conditions will be excluded.  Potential caregivers should have a history of excellent care for their pets, or "Friends", better yet.  Jack has had a "hard start" in life. We would like him to have a very pleasant life with many years of care and affection.   ~ Dr. Bob

Welcome to the
ALL PET CENTER

This is "Lucky Jack".  Jack was cruelly shot with a steel tip bow by a hunter somewhere near Jessieville.   The arrow entered Jack's jaw and exited out his eye.  This is one of the worst episodes of animal cruelty ever seen by Dr. Bob and the staff of All Pet Center.

Due to financial reasons, Jack’s owner has relinquished him and his further care to the Village Vet Services. Dr. Bob is in contact with veterinary surgeons concerning the chances for a successful surgery. Jack is off medication for now and doing well. He cannot open his mouth completely nor will he be able to do so until the arrowhead is removed.  If you or someone you know if a hunter, since hunting season is approaching, please be responsible.  What happened to Jack is NOT a sport - it is animal cruelty.  If you witness any incidents of animal abuse, please report the matter to your local authorities.

Visit this website to keep up with Jack's surgery and recovery.  We will be updating his condition each day.

Here are photos taken of "Lucky Jack" on November 13, 2007 at Dr. Bob's clinic.  Thanks to all of you who gave so generously to help Lucky Jack, he has been scheduled for surgery at Louisiana State University's School of Veterinary Medicine where they will perform this delicate and complicated surgery to remove the arrow from Jack's head.

Jack's surgery has been further complicated by the fact that he has Heartworms and suffers from Ehrlichia (tick disease) that can affect his reaction to anesthesia.  The medical team at LSU will perform an echo scan of Jack's heart to see if anesthesia can be administered, or if his Heartworm and Ehrlichia must first be treated before the surgery can be performed.  The emergency room veterinarians at LSU have treated many dogs who have these conditions, which will give Jack the benefit of their experience and sophisticated medical facilities.  We plan to walk all of you through Jack's like here, his trip to the veterinary college, his recovery, and his trip home to a new family.  Be sure to visit our website often to see Jack's progress!

Jack is currently being cared for by Dr. Bob and his staff at All Pet Center, where he is being socialized, taught how to walk on a lease, and prepared for his trip to LSU School of Veterinary Medicine for his delicate surgery to remove the steel arrow lodged in his head.  The veterinarians plan to perform Jack's surgery sometime near Thanksgiving.

This is "LUCKY JACK" who is celebrating the Christmas that almost didn't happen for this adorable little dog.  Lucky Jack will be going to the Louisiana State University school of Veterinary Medicine where a team of specialized veterinary surgeons will perform the delicate surgery needed to remove a steel tip hunting arrow that is lodged in his head.
