FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEWBORN SQUIRRELS, RABBITS, PUPPIES, & KITTENS
For baby squirrels:
Use a syringe with a rubber nipple. Esbilac Milk Replacer for puppies or kittens can be used as formula.
Mix and handle the formula as follows: 2 parts of water to 1 part of Esbilac Powder, and 1/4 part of non-
sweetened condensed milk. Mix in a small jar what you think you will use in 2 to 3 days. Refrigerate
mixture and the powder, too. Warm only what you will need each feeding to a little better than room
temperature. The baby should be fed every 2 to 3 hours.
For baby rabbits:
Use a syringe with a rubber nipple. Much the same as with neonatal squirrels, with baby rabbits, the
formula recipe is 2 parts water to 1 part Esbilac Milk Replacer to ¼ part non-sweetened condensed milk in
a 3 cc syringe. Powder and mixture should be refrigerated. The baby should be fed every 2 to 3 hours.
For puppies:
Gently stir or shake one part powdered Esbilac Milk Replacer into two parts warm water. Warm
reconstituted Esbilac to room or body temperature before serving. Feed puppies 2 tablespoons (30mL) of
liquid Esbilac per 4 oz. (115g) of body weight daily. Young and/or weak puppies should be fed every 3 to 4
hours. Older puppies can do well being fed every 8 hours. Unopened powder should be stored in a cool,
dry place. Reconstituted Esbilac must be kept refrigerated for up to 24 hours. Opened powder can be
refrigerated for up to 3 months, or can be frozen for up to 6 months to preserve freshness. Puppy Milk
Replacer is available at the clinic!
For kittens:
Gently stir or shake one part powdered Esbilac Milk Replacer into two parts warm water. Warm
reconstituted Esbilac to room or body temperature before serving. Feed kittens 2 tablespoons (30 mLs) of
formula per 4 oz. (115g) of body weight daily. Young and/or weak kittens should be fed every 3 to 4 hours
while older, larger kittens can be fed every 6 to 8 hours. Unopened powder should be stored in a cool, dry
place. Reconstituted Esbilac must be kept refrigerated for up to 24 hours. Opened powder can be
refrigerated for up to 3 months, or it can be frozen for up to 6 months. KMR is available at the clinic!
